Seven of Nine is the best addition to a TV series and for me the contender for most developed and interesting character. Kes is mishandled and I think she deserved more screen time and better writing. He is a hologram and his arcs and developments are never boring. The Doctor (No not that one but would be a good crossover) is one of the best characters in Star Trek. I think I am in the minority that liked him. Neelix is the wild card character you ether enjoy or hate. I think the writers did not know what to do with him. Harry Kim is a mishandled character that disappeared quickly or had smaller screen-time. Without Tom Paris it would be boring on the Voyager. While not my favorite he is still a good asset and I cant imagine Voyager without him. He is vanishing in the last season and there were rumors he angered the producers so he was written into nearly being a background actor. I think he is a valuable character in the show. I don't participate in the “Is Chakotay a racist character (stereotype)” discussion because I don't know enough.

Chakotay is one of my favorite characters. While I in general disagree there is one case were I agree and would stop her at the cost of my life if I were there and 2 cases where I would stop her by force or insurrection in necessary. There is the complaint by some that she is written insanely or with psychopathic tendencies in some episodes. For me she is a good character that is sometimes mishandled by the writers. Her future self even says that she was so arrogant or self-righteous -). Kathryn Janeway is a good captain with some flaws. If there is bad acting or handling I will point this out directly. Lets talk about the characters and I want to remind that all criticism is to the characters not the actors. They handled this really good and some of the best episodes in the first seasons are around this. A really good element are the different crews combined into one. This is a great opportunity for ideas and I thing they hit more than they miss. There is no help or support as they are strangers in a strange land to put it best. The Voyager is taken to the delta quadrant and approx 70 years away from the nearest Federation outpost. The problems were more weak episodes in comparison and sometimes inconsistencies for the characters with some bad ideas or should I better say some poor decisions.

With Voyager they tried something Overall it was an enjoyable series but weaker than TNG or DS9. Overall it was an enjoyable series but weaker than TNG or DS9.
